My new design

Von Gruff

KNIFE MAKER
The buffalo skinner is a new design that I have just completed
I was torn between a full flat grind or at least a flat grind up to about the height of between the top and bottom dots on my makers mark and put the dots down into the grind but in the end decided to do it this way with the relieved top edge to take some visual weight off the front of the blade.
.170 1075 with a 4 1/2 inch blade and 1 1/4 deep at the plunge.

With black paper micarta bolster and walnut handle it has finished up rather nice in hand. This one will be a giveaway on a hunting forum where I did one last year as well but where 80% of my sales come from. Not the best pics but it will give an idea of shape and handle design anyway.

The first hunting knife (and only knife) that I bought in the late 60's was a shrade old timer (deer slayer) and as the design was/is foriegn to New Zealand knife use I ground the tip to be a drop point and was never really happy with it's overall shape for our hunting style but it tought me a few things before I lost it and started making my own knives.
This knife was influenced by the deer slayer but with proportions better suited, at least to my eye and for the intended purposes.
