I am working on a friction folder, and was wondering what kind of pin some of you other Dogs use. I would like to have a screw type of pin, so that I could adjust the friction as it wears with use. Any suggestions? I will be using deer antler for the handle.

I have to agree with Wick.I do a number of different kinds of Friction folders, and really the only way I have been able to use a barrel type pivot is to use liners and bolsters. All the antler styles is just peening the pins. One method I use to make them very smooth is to use a bronze bushing for a pivot and I use washers keep from rubbing the sides of the antler.Dave
On this one I used a threaded standoff for a pivot bushing, washers and stainless screws.
Thanks Dave, those are some very nice looking folders. I like the bushing idea. What kind of washers do you use between the antler and blade? my first one is looking a little bit crude, so i won't use one on it. I hope to profile the blade today, (so far it has a cardboard one), and flat grind it and get ready to HT. I will post pics when it is further along. Thanks guys, Dale
Here it is started, ready for the bevels to be ground and then heat treated. I kinda ruined the first antler cutting the slot in it, so I had to try again, this time it went pretty good. These things are fun, but is there a better way to cut the slot, than using an abrasive cutoff wheel on my bench grinder? More pics, as I move along.

Forget about the 4 1/2" angle grinder, it's alot harder to control than a Dremel.Believe me I have tried most methods, and I have made a load of FF.I still have and carry the first one I made over 20 years ago.Dave
