Monkey Hawk: Cold Steel Trail Hawk with the following Monkey Works tweaks: strip paint, weld set screw hole and grind flush, re-shape beard, re-bevel, remove handle hole burr, fit handle, smooth all surfaces, bead blast, parkerize and sharpen blade.

I will have a Cocobolo handle for it sometime this week.
 
Nice. but I think the week spot will be, the short thin grain at the front of the handle.
Just turn the handle, so that area of short grain, is at the back.
Will make it stronger...
 
thats cool i have one of these trailhawks

and now im thinking of redoing the beard as you have
it looks better your way

one thing though
that handle although very pretty
might have a bit of a strength prob as the grain runs out three quarters along the handle

i dont know cocobolo
but with most woods i would want the grain to run the entire length

I worked with Cocobolo for years on handles and a few hawks until I became sensitized to it and now the dust makes me ill.
Granted it's not a ideal piece, but I still think you would have one heck of a time getting that piece of Cocobolo wood to crack.

Especially with a lighter trail size Hawk like this.
