Mokume Gane in the Small Shop: The Complete Guide to Diffusion Welded Mokume by Steve Midgett

Has anyone seen this book or have it? What do you think about it? Anyone have an suggestions where I can get this book that will not cost me an arm and a leg?

I have checked my local library and no luck....

thanks!

There's another very good book on the subject if you're wanting to make Mokume: "Mokume Gane" by Steve Midgett.

The first book runs about a $100.00 used Shipped, The second mentioned by Ray seems to run about half that for a new copy? If you really are going to make some Mokume Gane?
That is a cheap price for the knowledge. It wouldn't take but selling a few bars to put you in the black!
Amazon, Half.com , Google it?

Good Luck!

Hey, When I look at a newer Grinder or Drill Press or info on a How to book etc... I think of how much better I could use my time & increase production of my knives.

I soak up info by books better than most any other source!

I bought Tim McCreight's book, "How to make custom knives" I didn't even talk with another maker until I had made three or four crude, But functional knives. Then I met the greatest bunch of folks on the planet!

The next two purchase's will be a Vert & Horizontal Grinder or just a Horizontal one, And a 1 1/2 HP Drill Press or Mill
I may even be interested in buying a small bar of Mokume for some bolsters. When you get set-up & running of course!

I have the Mokume Gane a comprehensive study by Steve Midgett book, its a great book but I just looked and it goes for $225 used on Amazon.
I also have the Mokume Gane by Ian Ferguson book that goes for only $16 on ebay and it is easily as good as the Midgett book.
Save your money and get the Ian Ferguson book.
