Mill advice needed

I'm thinking I want a small mill for knife-making, like cutting slots in guards and maybe some folder work, don't want to spend a fortune but want something I can work with and maybe grow into as I learn, have seen some grizzly minis for $600, just not sure that's hoss enough, any one have a suggestion ?

Start with a machine that has an R-8 spindle mounting

That way when you go up to a larger machine, you can use that on the new machine.

I bought this one from Grizzly. I am very pleased with it. I did buy a keyless chuck for it. It does a very nice job.

If you're considering the G704, I'd take a look at Precision Matthews:

For just a little more money than Grizzly costs, they calibrate and clean up the machine so that it's much more precise out of the box. Same machine, just different paint job and tighter tolerances. Worth an extra couple hundred or so IMO.
