Matchlock Axe/Pistol

Bruce, anytime you want to try one just let me know and we'll work it out. there are things I can do for you that would be over the top. from 3d animal/ scene carving to adding engraved text or patterns to personalize a project.

Erik

Erik that sounds good, I wish you we're here in town, I could find allot of projects for ya. Maybe the next gun box I can trace the parts and mail it to you?

OK so I found the 1/8" masonite would wet and form but to go around sharp corners I went with kydex.

After all the glue is dry this morning I put the gun, flask, .50 cal. balls, ram rod, slow match cord and cleaning kit inside. It looks good I think. Maybe a matching removable tray or at least another separator for the cleaning kit. Next I'm going to put a padded panel on the underside of the box lid just in case this gets turned upside down in transport to the battlefield. :)

wow...just wow...I've been following this pretty much from the beginning and seeing it all come together is just plain amazing...elegant work Bruce...simply elegant

Much appreciated feedback gentlemen. This one is just about at the end of the tunnel. it's the longest I've worked on a single project.

Looking good - can't wait for that etch though. :D

Are you getting some pieces engraved as well?

I don't think you've got your mark on yet either?

I do still need to put my logo on it somewhere, probally on the barrel. I need to resist the flats (octagon) on the barrel for the engraving. Yes its going to be engraved but I took too long and missed my time slot with Brian Hochstrat. The owner isnt in a big hurry so he wants to wait until Brian can do it about next summer.

Next summer? :(

Oh well, it'll be a nice surprise! :D

I've got a new obsession with watching engraving videos. :D

I should be watching engraving vids too. Thats my next big adventure is to engrave something of my own. I'm 61 now so in 20 years I'll be pretty good, that is if Kaye will help me get into my engravers chair.:)
I have a Gravermax, foot and hand control, compressor, bench, chair, microscope, bits and enthusiasm but still need a engravers block and diamond hone. I want the engravers block thats designed for microscope work. They're about $795 and nobody is selling theirs used. Same goes for the hone. I'm thinking about building the hone. Lon gave me the diamond stone and speed reducted motor but it needs to be adapted together somehow. Maybe I can stumble onto the hone.

This had been mind blowing to watch and the end result is just amazing. I wonder how much of the
end result you saw at the beginning?

Hi Dan, Thank You
I could see the end result although through dim glass. Much of the process and details were worked out as they arose. The end result looks somewhat like the hand sketches at the beginning. The dragon got carried away with detail compared to the plain steel side plates but dont forget they will be highly engraved which should help equal things out. All the plain steel parts are a canvas for the engraver.

Bruce. You've outdid yourself on this project, it's so cool. I've checked in all along and watched it taking shape. Just getting all the pictures would exaust most of us peons.

Looking forward to seeing it after the engraving is done. It needs the engraving to match the walnut and that dragon. I don't know how you top a project like this but you always do.
Have a merry Christmas. Robin

Hi Robin,
Thanks friend,
According to my photobucket file for this project I have 650 photos. I've never personally read this thread from beginning to end. My family only knows me by the back of my head now because my computer is in the corner.
We need to get together at Ranch and Home before Christmas or else I'm coming out there. Let me know,
