Matchlock Axe/Pistol

The muzzle nut got some attention today. It had to be cut down to length and flaired. Not much progress but it all adds up.

Amazing work, as always, Bruce! You'd think you owned a fancy Bridgeport Mill and a high dollar lathe from the looks of that work!
I love that damascus pattern, a lot, and really like that scalloped flange (or whatever you call it)...truly fantastic.

Nope, just a loose Grizzly mill and a cheap import mini-lathe. Thanks Brother!

I think the muzzle nut is done, at least for now.

The dragon picture is from our artist son Brian. He is gifted with the hand to draw (he must have gotten that from his mother) and sells his work in Portland Oregon. This picture of a dragon is a little wild for this gun but I plan to tame it down in carved steel. I've been dreading this for a couple months but the time is now to work on it. I'm going to trace and modify the major lines and start grinding and chipping away steel until it takes shape.

Man this is going to be freakin awesome! That's looking good Bruce! What a great project, I can't get enough of it.
 
Bruce's Bling Box

After much sanding and multiple thin coats of varnish, the box for Bruce's beast is finished. It will look much better when he gets it filled with the Dragonslayer and all it's accessories. Thanks for letting me join in the fun here.

I fell into a great piece of burl Turkish Walnut today about the same time Roger T called and said the box is finished. I took the walnut to his place and he helped me cut it up and re-saw it for the new axe handle. This is some of the nicest wood I've ever used. It machines and carves so smooth compared to most everything else especially other burls.

Roger, that is absolutely beautiful work. As I think back over the progress pics, I just love how you went about getting here. It's wonderful. You are truly an artist in wood. Thanks for sharing your efforts with us here.
 
Bruce, how the hell do you "fall into" a piece of burl like that!? That's major networking man, no doubt about it. It looks beautiful even in its rough state; can't wait to see how it finishes out with all the other stuff built into it. This is a wonderful thread, keeps me thinking what's next all day. Thanks to you too, for taking the time to share your work with us.

A former president of the Custom Rifle Makers Guild lives only 30 miles from me. It just so happened he had exactly what I was looking for and at an incredible price too. The rifle blank he sold me had a bad spot and wasnt usuable for his size of gun otherwise it would have been a $2000 blank. I have enough left over for another axegun and a bunch of knife scales.
