So let me preface this by saying it was a GREAT DAY today!! Better than many recently! I woke up my GF made me an awesome Breakfast (for my Birthday), I went to a friend's he flattened a piece of Pakistanie Demascus for me, gave me some BEAUTIFUL slabs and blocks of Mahogoney for my stock (never used it?), got a foot switch for my new little bandsaw. And the Cream of the cream my stencils came in from Ernie!! I was like a 10 yr old at Christmas!! Got out the etcher I built did a test (as suggested by Ernie) and etched my first real blade.

The stencils Ernie make WORK GREAT and he's a heck of a nice guy!! And I was able to spend it with all the people I care for. Like I said GREAT DAY!!

Echoing Ted remarks, may you have many more days like today and yes your mark it very crisp so hopefully the first of a great many more.

Working on finishing this one. Can't wait to finish. Scales all glued up just waiting 24hrs before I start shaping!

Looking good. Etching the logo is usually the next to last thing I do to a knife. Fully ground, scales installed and finished, etch, then sharpen. When do other folks etch? next to last thing? OR - before scales are installed

I'd be interested on this too. Since this was my first one and it had the Acid/Ceramic tumble finished look I did it prior to attaching the scales so I could throw it back into the tumbler to get rid of the crud/leached etchant from under the stencil. If you were sanding the blade for a finish I guess you could do it either way?

I etch a blade after I have dry fitted my scales, bevels are finish ground and after I have layed down a clean finish on the flats. So basically right before glue up. If you have any hazing around your etch it only takes a few clean passes with your finish grit to clean up the etch and make it pop. If you wait to do it after glue up and you have to touch up the finish on the ricasso where you etched your logo its about impossible to do without leaving j-hook scratches.

Knife is done! Very happy with finishd product! Only thing I wish I had moved the front pin a little towards the spine. But when I designed the knife I centered it on the 1" piece of stock.IMG_20171205_29398.jpg View attachment 62327 IMG_20171205_29398.jpg View attachment 62327 IMG_20171205_55507.jpg

Looks good. I like the white liners and pins.

Did a couple things different. The liners, I also tapered the handle from front to back. Wish I had used some multicolored Micarta cause the Taper exposed the different layers. Would have looked COOL!!
