A friend of mine gave me some slabs/scales and blocks of Mahogany today. Do they need to be stabilized? This stuff is really rock hard! Should look awesome on the right knife with some brass pins.

I had some monster slabs of mahogany that came from Dean guitars. (they were guitar blanks, not cut up old guitars.) That stuff was hard to cut even on a bandsaw. Stabilizing never hurts but I saw no need to stabilize it, personally. I also don't stabilize maple and I use the stuff all the time on kitchen knives. So long as the wood has had plenty of time to dry, I believe it's as stable as it's ever going to get.

I'm going to try a 6" Chefs knife. Use some of that Mahogany for the handle. Need to buy some steel!
