Low layer count damascus

I've been offline for the last day or so and missed this thread. Chris - you did good. Low count Damascus is still something I've got on the back burner. Just got to "get around to it" type of thing.

That fly press you've got - I didn't know anything about them and had to do some research. Those are neat things - do they work to set the welds pretty good? How about drawing out the billet?

I used my hammer to set all of the welds but I think it would be fine to use the press. Call it a comfort factor because I always use a hammer to weld. I will post some pics of the fly press later. It works very well for helping draw the billet out. It is still powered by you but it is a different movement than swinging a hammer so I go back and forth between them. Now, if you get your 13 year old, huge son to be the power you basically have a light power hammer that runs on food.
