Liner

Does everyone use Ti for their liners. Or is there another material that you use.
And where is the best place for the buck to by Ti.

Many makers use Ti for liners, though some use steel. One of the big differences between them is needing to heat treat the steel liners for the proper spring of the lock bar. With Ti liners, that's not an issue at all. There are several places that sell Ti-Alpha Knife Supply, I believe USA Knifemaker does, and American Metal Exchange in CA does, too.

You will find stainless used for most import liner locks.
400 series stainless can be heat treated to it holds a bend and stiffens it a bit. 300 series doesn't have enough carbon to benefit from heat treat and will be softer.
Custom builders that use stainless for liners will use 416 or 420 stainless and heat treat it. It's quite strong and works well.

Most custom builders now use Titanium (6al-4v) for liner locks starting at .040" up to .110". It starts to turn into a frame lock after you get past .110".
