Leather Stiff After Dyeing

Hey guys - used Fiebings med brown on my last sheath (fifth sheath total), found it easy to use and pleased with the color coverage. The leather now seems rather rigid. Should I finish with a product to soften the leather a bit? If so, what do you recommend?

Oh yeah, had previously used pre-dyed leather someone gifted me for two sheathes. It stays almost too soft for use as a sheath. Other two I used Kiwi shoe polish and liked how the black liquid stuff turned out, if a bit messy.

I use Aussie as a final protective coat. It protects the finish from weather and helps to keep the leather from drying out and soft.

If you use an alcohol based dye it will be stiff upon drying. I use lexol before and after to try to compensate.

You might want to try just a good application of Renaissance Wax to put some oil back into the leather without making it too soft.

I was thinking the same thing, I want a knife sheath to be stiff.
