A friend if mine gave me a big peice of Latigo leather 7 or 8 oz. It is beautiful, but can it be formed like you can with veg tanned leather? I sure would love to use it for sheaths. Thanks, Duncan

Sadly, not a good substitute for good ol'veg-tan.Some latigo is veg-tan and some is chrome tanned which is bad for knives. It is used mainly in harness and tack, and is soft, dosen't tool, mold, or accept dye very well.Sorry.Dave:)

Same here, tried latigo from Tandy since I could get large scraps. It doesn't form for crap and relaxes on its own over time so it makes a very loose sheath. However, I did make a Mexican style sheath with it that uses a mechanical lock rather than formed for retention and it works very well for that. I also can't get it to burnish at all. Good luck!

It'll work fine for belts and leashes, but if you want nice edges on them you will need Edge Kote.
