Latest Swords

Howdy!

Since I am still on light duty due to emergency surgery all I am "allowed" to do is "hand work"...no machinery just yet....so I juts polished out and mounted several sword blades I made for book IV here are two.

The green one has my "3 brothers" Hamon with natural Tiger Ray samegawa and Dragonfly fittings the red has my "Double Cross" Hamon with red samegawa and Phoenix fittings..Both are Kobuse 1070 with mild steel cores. Turned out ok..

I'd say both turned out MUCH better than just "ok". Try GREAT!

Now, you said "1070 with mild steel cores". I "think" I know what that means, but to be sure would you explain please.

Hello:

There is a 1070 steel "jacket" that is "wrapped" around the mild steel "core and the blade is forged from that bar..This technique is called "Kobuse"..

Book IV?? I'm excited. Exquisite swords, sir! Thanks for sharing!

Best wishes for your complete recovery from the surgery. I've had two surgeries myself, recently, so know it can take a bit out of one.

Hello: well they aren't as elaborate as some of the patter welded blades I do but they will work. I am not all that keen of the Japanese style blades but I had to cover them in book IV..

I thought that might be the case. Your first post did say "Kobuse 1070", but I didn't understand the Kobuse was a process. I did a search and found this link which gives good info: https://www.mandarinmansion.com/glossary/kobuse
An interesting process to try sometime. Thank you for the thread.
