Self Made Knives

I actually had this knife mostly finished a month or two ago, but switched to more urgent orders. Customer doesn't need this until October, so it was on the back burner for a while. Customer's initials on pins. Still have to make a sheath.

1095, G10 scales, SS corbys, blued finish

I like everything about this knife. I like handles turned down in relation to the blade.

Nicely finished.

Anthony, I like it, the handle has a good look to it! The handle to the blade hooks down a little much for looks but once in hand, you never know I might like it!!

Sooooooo, how did you do the initals?? Are they stamped or etched, it looks like they may be etched???

I once had a customer when I was first getting started that wanted his grandsons name on the sheath. Like I said back then I was just getting started and I formed the initials out of wire and scorched them into the leather. I took a pic before it was sent and asked him if he liked and got an OK. I was not happy about that and took the money and bought a set of leather stamps with the profit!

They're etched. First time I've tried it and it wasn't bad at all. I made an alphabet stencil and a few "mosaic" like designs. Here's a pic of a test etch on a cheapy blade. Can't decide if those will look good on knife pins or not.

Thats one snazzy skinner. If its useable and comfortable in your paw then the customer should be exstatic. Like the etched initials. Make a small edc and use the mosaic etch on the pins and keep it.

Nice work Anthony, this looks like a knife you may have been asking a question about the G-10 pattern a few months ago, am I right, it looks vaguely familiar. Am I right or am I thinking of something else? Anyway, looks great!

Great job, Anthony. I happen to like the "Humped Back Cat" look. I incorporate in into some of my stuff but I'm not as good as you. Your finish on this blade is off the charts.

You might try like and oval insert in the handle with the instals! I am kind of like you said on the fence with that one! It is different, that doesn't always translate into something bad!!

I know its a personal touch but since my incident with the sheath, I never mention personalizing the knife or sheath. If the customer brings it up then we will talk and see if we can come up with an agreeable solution..

It left a bad taste in my mouth. Main reason, I went the extra mile for the customer to personalize the sheath that was OK However I felt like, I let one get out of my shop that I wasn't satisfied with. My unwritten policy since then, I might build you something I don't like but,............ I will be satisfied with the effort or it will not go out!!

BTW, the symbol in the pic reminds me of a Celtic knot, not sure it that is what you were shooting for but it has a nice look to it!!

Thanks for the comments guys, and yes this is the one I had doubts about the scales. Actually C.Craft, I didn't even ask the customer if it was ok to put his initials on it. He's my cousin and I know he wants it for himself only, so I felt it was safe. He's planning a Colorado elk hunt in October and he liked the first skinner I made so much, he wanted one too. I told him I will need some field testing info and few pics of the it with the elk. One thing about personalizing a knife or sheath that's reassuring is that you know the customer is planning on keeping it.
