Knife WIP (Part Two)

Alright here it is. Embarrassing to be honest there is a ton of flaws but I got to take it to dad for his Birthday tomorrow so other then a edge it’s done. A lot of the weird streaks you see on the spine and handle Area are actually wax I didn’t clean off good enough not actually scratches. There are some scratches though. I will also post a video showing off the knife and some of its flaws.

Daniel, looking good!

Please don't take this wrong! On your next handle the flat at the top and bottom reduce it to near nothing. In other words roll it down to 1/16" or less. It will make the handle look less blocky. Also where the handle meets the ricasso taper it some. There again it reduces the blocky look and it keeps the front of the handle being a battering ram on those occasions where you cut something thick!

Other than that I think you knocked it out of the ball park! out of the park.png

Not at all you ain’t going to hurt my feelings! I agree 100%! The front of the scales had been contoured pretty nice but I had to take more off then I thought after glue up and of course you can’t re contour once it’s glued up!:p

Sheaths coming soon. I ordered everything a little over a week ago and it’s still not here.

Those streaks in the pictures are driving me nuts! I promise it’s wax from the handle! Should’ve cleaned it up better before pictures.

Looks nice Daniel! I agree with CCliff. It's a touch blockie. His suggestions are spot on. However excellent execution. And that spalted maple really makes it stand out.

The spalted maple is beatifu and following on from Clifs ntes you can do a lot to rectify what he has mentioned as far as the handle re-shaping is concerned so that is not unfixable. A carbide faced filing jig will take care of the plunge issues so any fault can be aleviated on the next knife but for a first one you can be rightly proud of it and I am sure your father will be very pleased with the honour of your first as a gift.

I think you did a great job D. I contour the end of my scales for looks but I leave some thickness there too because In use I prefer it because I tend to choke up a little for some tasks. Its an awesome knife you should be pleased. Your father will see nothing but perfection...
