Joshua Smith is our graphics guy. I asked him to take a couple knife pics. He has mad skills.

In Photoshop, each image element is lifted from the back ground. To get sharp focus across the entire length of the knife he used multiple images over lapping with various focus points. The drop shadow is added in the software and must match the light source which is almost always upper left.
The back ground is photographed separately added as a layer in the software.
We use daylight (around 5500 kelvin) LED lights in our tent. Generally on a picture like this you would use 1/3 front and 2/3's back lighting.
