I am starting to make knives with guards is there any problems that occur using 416 stainless with 1084 carbon steel? I didn’t know if there was any chemical reactions that would occur long term.

Steel on steel not a problem with galvanic corrosion. Plus if you seal stuff up, the "electrolyte" can't get in. 416 is a very common material for fittings.

When I hear about rare tang corrosion, it is oft times an anecdotal tale involving a Japanese kitchen knives with the traditional "burned in" handle. No adhesive, so nothing to seal/block water, I guess.
