Knife # 5

I made this bushcraft knife out of an old US made high carbon steel file for my buddy Alex. Alex is a US Army Vet, a Realtor extraordinaire, and a really good friend. Him and I share a lot of common interests. One of them being knives. The handle for this one is made out of polyester micarta. Brass was used for pins. The knife took a total of about 6 hours to make, which stretched throughout two weeks. Overall l am happy the way this piece of functional art turned out. I hope Alex gets to enjoy this for many years to come. I am freaking hooked on making these.

I dig it! I'm a new guy myself. I like the handle material, but I think I'm correct in saying that is polyester resin handle material and not polyester micarta. "Micarta", both original trademarked and copied versions are resin laminated fabrics like linen, burlap, denim, or paper. Your handle material is simple cast resin. Nothing wrong with it, and it is striking and I have some exactly like it as well, but it doesn't have the famous strength and tactile feel of Micarta. Polyester cast resin is a good choice for a knife that won't see hard use and/or abuse.

Anyways, please don't take my comment as a slight. It's not. Just wanted to keep you from getting pinched on terminology if/when you start selling your work. And if I'm incorrect, I hope someone will set it all straight for the both of us! Nice work and keep it up. I'm right behind you!
