K- line variable speed controler problems

Hello everyone.

I've been a lurker here for quite a while and really like the wealth of information on here. I have picked up a lot of tips here that I use every day in my shop. I have been a full time knife maker for 4 years and have been building them for 17. I got started in Denver by guild member Billy Letcher. Dan Burke helped me a lot in the last several years before he moved out of the country.

My problem is, I have a K-line variable speed controler model C-MH-X-787B-E, on one of my belt grinders. It has operated flawlessly for years. Yesterday, It just quit on me. No smoke, no popping, no nothing. Just quit. I checked the fuse with an ohm meeter and it was fine. And had a friend who is somewhat of an electical guru come over last night. He checked the switch, and it's fine. There is power through the switch, through the fuse, and to the mother board, but none coming out to the motor.

That's as far as I can go as I am not electric savvy. In fact, I am alergic to electricity. It makes me do funny things like back flips, jumping jacks, and run. LOL.

Any help would be appreciated. Or, if anyone knows who I might send this thing to for repairs that would be great.

I only get online every other day or so, so it might be a a couple of days before I check back in here.

Thanks in advance. Scott

I'm electrically challenged myself Scott. My KB's have two fuses inside - one being an armature
fuse I believe. Also, do you know the motor is ok? May be time for new brushes.

My 2 cents,
David

Mr. Crawford, I had an electrical engineer friend of mine come over and check it out. It turned out to be the transformer in the control box. Luckily he uses them at his work and was able to snag me one at a real good price. $6.00 and I am back to making metal dust.

Thank you for your reply as I would have never thought of checking the brushes on my motor.

Scott
