Finally getting around to introducing Balisong Butterfly here.
We’re a small Austin, Texas based shop working with Filipino makers whose families have been making balisongs for generations. The knives are made in the Batangas tradition, but the work is now being done here in the U.S.
What I find most interesting about the balisong is how much of the finished knife comes down to the little things. The fit of the handles, the pivots, the tang, the balance, and how everything feels once it has been tuned. It’s easy to look at a butterfly knife and just see the blade and handles, but there’s quite a bit going on in that small package.
We work with several steels including 440C, D2, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, along with natural handle materials such as horn, hardwood, bone and mother of pearl. We also offer trainers for the models where someone would rather learn without starting with a live blade.
We’ve also put together some guides on the history, construction and different parts of a balisong for anyone who wants to dig a little deeper.
