Jigged Bone Hunter

I am just about finished with this one but decided to post it up since today was a good picture taking day. This is my first time using jigged bone and I like the looks. It's more difficult to mount the scales in my opinion and it's defiantly a learning curve opportunity there. I used red liners to back the jigged bone and black micarta pins with a brass lanyard tube. The knife is ~7.5" OAL with a 3.25" blade. 1084 steel and I left the flats as quenched/tempered. I also ordered a few more jigged bone scales from Culpepper, just in case :).

Very pretty! I've never used jigged bone. What are the difficulties with it?

Thanks!
The worm grooves present the first problem - that is way I decided to use micarta pins - I thought the metal pins might be more difficult to peen over and finish. The jigged scales are not flat so drilling perpendicular pins holes was difficult for me. But I guess it's like anything else, once I've done a couple I probably wouldn't see it as a problem. On the plus side the bone sands and polishes well. I don't have a buffer so I just took them to 800 grit and then hand waxed them.

You did a fantastic job. The pins look perfect to me.

I seem to recall reading a post some time ago - a very elegant solution for drilling the holes from the backside of irregular material such as bone and antler. The maker made a fixture that clamped the scale to the tang, and they hung underneath the top side of square tubing. I'll see if I can find that post. Not that you need it, but for anyone else who may want to try it.

Thanks John Wilson! I'll have to find me some metal like that.

Here is one way. Screws are 8/32 drill matching holes in center to drill through bottom plate pulls it up .

Very nice,Opaul!

John I had that video bookmarked before I done a clean-up on chrome one night about a month ago in an attempt to get better performance. Well lets say chrome was doing better but, when I went to my bookmarks...................they no longer existed!! There idea of a complete clean-up not only meant cookies and history but everything!!
I got it again now though!!!
