Japanese Kitchen Blades - Handle Suggestions

Meridian Blades

I have these two blades one is San Mai and the other is Damascus. Hard to see because they are covered in wax right now. I know theres oval shaped and octagon shaped, etc. I was thinking of blackwood and desert ironwood for one of them. If these were your blades what kind of handles would you put on there? Copper spacer? Other Materials? Thanks for your input. -Larry

I might lean toward a stabilized wood to withstand the rigors of constant washing, Larry. As far as shape, I have seen everything from what you mentioned to canoe shaped and gunstock shaped handles. Hexagonal or Octagonal handles do lend additional interest to the overall package.

Thanks for your input Denny.... I think I need to just start laying some pieces out and see what they look like together. Will definately go stabilized, unless its ironwood. Larry

I agree with the stabilized wood. Black paper micarta is aslo a classy look. For natural wood, Rosewood or other oil woods are commonly used.

Great looking blades! Good luck and please post pictures when your done!
