Ironwood, everybodys favorite

Personally, I generally hand finish it out to 800-1200 grit, then a light buff with Pink No-Scratch on a loose buff.....then a good coat of Caranuba wax. Don't try to apply any type of liquid or "oil" finish to it.....all that will do is create a terrible mess.
 
Yes I agree with Ed.Sand to a very fine grit and make sure you buff it on a loose buff wheel and very light pressure or you will have rough finish as the buffer eats away some of the softer material.
