How to use a needle eyel lap?

Hi,

I have a folder that I need to clean up the pivot hole in after HT.

I ordered a adjustable barrel lap from usaknifemaker supply, but don't think I will recieve it in time so I have made my own needle eye lap from brass.

Should the lap be exactly the size I want the hole to be or sligthly larger or maybe smaller. The laps have some flex to them...

What rpm should I use and should the blades be clamped down or keept loose?

I tried it with about 400 rpm in mild steel but wasn't int too impressed with the finish. I used fine valvegrinding compound.

Can't you just tool up a piece of fine sandpaper,stick it in the hole and spin it around? That should work if you just want to clean it up.
