Purchased a block of this awhile back and made a knife from it. Had this left over. Can’t remember what type wood it is. Splated Maple maybe?

Yep. Looks like I would at least put a sticker on it so I could remember. The info I’m getting from a Facebook group says it black dyed oak burl. I guess I’ll go with that.

Definitely doesn't look like maple to me...the spalting in maple usually looks much different. Could be some type of curly oak? I'll reach out to my wood expert and see what he says

I do believe it to be oak burl, treated in some way, most likely dyed.
