Hey gang,
I hate popping in just to ask for help, but I'm in a bind. I'm having a heck of a time with the bevel geometry of the american style Tanto. Is there a preferred order to the grind? Tip first? edge first?
It's going to be flat ground on both accounts. Should I keep the edge of the tip perpendicular to the belt??? I keep practicing on mild steel, but I cant seem to achive that trapezoidal tip grind?!?!?! There has to be some secret voodoo to this. Hence, my call for help.
Thanks Folks,
Matt

I haven't made one of these in years. The ones I made I ground the bevels first and then did the tip on a disk sander.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot. I , unfortunately, don't have a disc sander. Luckily, I think I've been grinding long enough that I can fix most screwups. I was just hoping there was some advice on grinding these right the first time. We'll see... Thanks again!

I run my bevels all the way off the tip, regardless of if it's a chisel or double grind.
Then I come back and do the tips.
I hold the knife so the tips edge is up and parallel to the ground, or square to the belt, and approach it that way.
If it's a chisel grind, it just doesn't get any easier.

Awesome. that's exactly what I needed! Thank you!
