help - copper patina advice needed

Hi,

I'm quite desperate here guys, i'm working on this knife-

and i'm looking to get a dark (red / brown) patina on the copper spacer,
i'v tried ferric chloride, white vinegar, heated linseed oil, and jim kelso's 10 hour water boil with no luck.

ANY tips would be very much appreciated.

thanks for all the help, i ended up using chemicals, i preferred avoiding chemicals, but it did work!
