Just found this site. I just retired and started making knives from some blade blanks I got from Bob Engnath many years ago. I'm really having fun, I think I'm going to have to get A grinder and start grinding my own blades. I was thinking about the reversible disc grinder from Tru-Grit. Any comments?

Hello Wild Bill and welcome. I am just starting out and i have a reversible disc grinder and it works pretty well for flat grinding smaller blades. If you were doing larger blades it might take a little while and i think you would be better off with the belt type. You can hollow grind with the belt style also and i think you will have a better selection on abrasives. Ceramic comes to mind for hogging metal off. To have both types would be perfect. My disc sander is also a variable which is nice you can turn the speed down and have excellent control. Doug

Thanks for the info Doug I plan on making folders so the disc grinder should work. Can't afford A variable speed though. I do already have A cheap 1x42 grinder.

Hey Bill, I understand. I really think you ought to save a little longer and get a nice variable speed. You wont be disappointed especially if you are going to grind blades.
