Hamon Line Finish

As some of you might know I let Brad at Peter's heat treat experiment with doing Differential Heat treat.

I should be getting the Blade back real soon and I was wondering a few things.

What is a good finish for the blade with hamon?
I usually bring mine to 400 grit but not sure if that a good one.

What is the prosses for finishing with a good Line?

Is it sand to what ever grit it going to be and then etch in ferric acid, then its done?

Also what is the best water/acid ratio?

I want this one to turn out really good!! I am going to pair it with some Green dyed Box Elder2thumbs

Thanks Murph, I have read that one a few times!

I am also interested to know anyone else's way/opinion of doing it.

Well I got my Knife back from Peter's today.

Looks like Stephan's way is the best/only way to finish a blade with a hamon it it.

Thanks
