Hamon Clay

So, I've been trying my hand at hamons using satinite and getting ok results. This made me wonder what else you guys are using to achieve successful hamons. Any tips on different mediums would be deeply appreciated.

Mike,

What steel are you using? I ask because I bought 12' of W2 from Aldo and 4' of his 1075 in addition to some W2 from Don Hanson III that I bought before he sold out.

I will be forging out a couple blades this weekend from Aldo's W2 and this will be my first foray into Hamon land...

So... As a newbie to Hamons' I've been doing a LOT of reading in prep.

Have your read this helpful link?

Thanks, I've been using 1084 from Aldo and getting good results. I've learned to do a thin coat at the base of the of the thicker clay on the spine to make the hamon look more active like what naturally happens with W2 or 1095.

Thank you for the link. You might also want to look at a WIP by Nick Wheeler.
