Grinding Titanium - perhaps a better for some

I only make liner locking folders. I like using titanium for several reasons and have even gone to using it for back bars. I have always been not to pleased with the way it produces very fire making sparks and also how it can cover belts so they no longer want to cut at least on this material. Today I tried a different type belt in the same sizes I would have used in the ceramic, trizact and aluminum oxide. Those were silicon carbide belts, the same ones I have already recommended if working on mammoth tooth. What a change !!!! The sparks and hot edge of the titanium were almost non exsistant !!!They are available through Tru Grit ; other suppliers I haven't seen them. These belts also work much better on pearl than others. Yes Frank,grinding titanium can get pretty exciting sometime. I'm not going to switch belts though because I like the fireworks! Tapping that stuff is what I don't like doing.

I use silicon carbide belts to sharpen my knives, they work pretty well and seem to last. I get them from SuperGrit.

I tap all the 0-80 holes in my liners with my Tapmatic since I got it,piece of cake,and I use the fluid that they recommended for this purpose. I don't use titanium for spacers because I hate tapping those relatively deep holes in it. I keep telling myself that I'm going to try thread forming taps one day as opposed to thread cutting taps,first I have to find my ROUND TUIT, I seem to have misplaced it somewhere.

The belts wear faster than ceramics but they are a lot less costly. Frank
