Greetings folks, I'm Joe, I hail from Jersey. I am a former Marine, father of 2, I am a gun and knife enthusiast. I recently, after what seems like a lifetime of putting thiings off, started making my first knife. It is a camp type knife around 12" long, ground from 1/4" steel. I have NO idea what kind of steel it is. At this point, it is a learning/experiment piece. When I get a chance I will post pics of my WIP. Looks like I have a lot of reading to do here, see ya 'round!:biggrin:
 
Hi Joe and welcome to KD. Probably the best thing you can do is to practise your skills on cheap scrap steel before using a good knife steel. I am sure you will find an incredable amount of info on this site.

Color selection is on lower left of screen,
a few people even use "mango" but most of us agree "grey" is the best!
