Gourd Gouge

So I had a lady ask me if I could make her a gouge for hollowing out large dried gourges.I told her I would give it a shot.I don't own a traditional style anvil so I had to come up with a way to form the multiple curves,in my shop I have the ball from a 2 inch ball valve that I use as a peening anvil for straight razor pins FB_IMG_1509470366364.jpg .After forging the blade to shape from 5/8x5/8 5160 bar stock I clamped the ball valve to my anvil and formed the final shape. This thing came out perfect for her needs and was extremely sharp and yes I cut myself with it.The lady is a older women and she started worrying obout cost and in the end I just gave it to her.

That is a great tool, and very cool gesture on your part. I believe the generosity we show others comes back to us many times over.
Thanks John,I didn't even think about cost and it was something different that I had never tried,I don't think she had a clue what a custom blade cost and I suspect she looked at my website after she asked me to do it and began fretting about it,I looked at it as a chance to do something different and enhance my skills and that was worth more then money. It also felt good when I handed it to her and said no charge ,the look on her face was priceless.

Yeah, I imagine she only realized what she had asked for after you'd already started working on it. I'll bet you could have knocked her over with a feather when you just gave it to her.

Very Nice, as Monty Python said.......and now for something completely different, a gourd gouger !
I'd like to see the look on someone when they asked how you cut yourself and you tell them....oh, a gourd gouger...a what?
Kudo's for gifting it to the lady!
