Gambler's bowie...

J. Doyle

Dealer - Purveyor
Here's another one headed with me to Seattle. A small-ish gambler's hide-out bowie. This is slim and trim, light and fast in hand.

Hand forged from 1084
10 3/4" overall, 6" blade, .200" thick at the ricasso
Full distal taper, ending in a nice point
False edge, not sharp
Rounded spine and ricasso edge
Black g-10 fittings
Stabilized Amboyna burl handle, sculpted, carved and textured

Just a fun pic with some cool cards and some interesting, turn of the 20th century coins:

Now that's a knife! Clean lines, excellent design and terrific details. You are truly and artisan.

John,

Top notch as usual! I really like the sculpted and textured handle. The finish on the blade which appears darkened, not black, is very attractive also. Is this accomplished by etching? Is it fair to call it a type of satin finish? Your use of coined and grooved G10 for fittings is very appealing also. Do you use a checkering file for that operation? Again, well done, and thanks for sharing.

I have been trying to figure out how you did the subtle texturing on this knife handle. Maybe a high speed engraving tool, with a carving burr. Very nice, will have to try my hand at that detail.
