Here is my first attempt at forging a blade, well not my first if you count 2 railroad spike knives that I done a few years ago, so my third attempt.

First I want to show my little forge, that I done some trading for from a coworker.

Here is my anvil, it was my dads, and has been in the family for over 50 years and was old when he bought it, I don't know what brand it is, or the weight, the sides are so beat up that the markings can't be read.

Now here is the funny part, the tang still needs to be drawn down and the blade needs to be straightened a little bit, it is made from an old truck spring, so the steel type is ? , what I will call 88f150fs. It is just a practice knife, that I will keep forever. The next one will be of known steel, not sure what yet, 1084 or O1, W1. Anyway just don't laugh so hard that you end up on the floor.

Thanks for looking, and all comments welcome.

Nothing to laugh about. Keep at it. It probably is 5160 but I like 88f150 better2thumbs

Looks good to me. I just forged my first one a couple months ago. I've since forged two more. It's addictive! Now if the weather would co-operate I would do more.

Congratulations on your first forged blade. Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys, Stabber, I will treat it like 5160. Murph I know what you mean about the weather, it was in the low 90s when I done this one. 90 plus and a fire, thats smart. So far I like forging.
