First WIP attempt

I’m going to try my hand at one of these WIP threads, maybe you guys can catch my mistakes before I make them!

step one was to draw/trace my design. Pretty much a bushlore profile, on 3/16 X 1 1/2” 1084 from NJSB
Step 2 which I accidentally skipped photos was to cut out the rough shape of the profile.

I drilled my pin holes while the handle was still square so I could lock it into the machinist vice on my mill/drill machine

Then I moved to my 2x72 belt grinder to grind the final profile on my blank.

I then put on my file guide and roughed in my bevels

now it’s time to warm up the forge to heat treat (photos to follow)

I use a piece of stainless pipe as a muffler to protect my blade from the direct heat of the forge and to get a more even heat

I’m enjoying this too. One thing I would be concerned about, and you might have it under control. Will the first pin be too close to the edge of the handle on the ricasso side. It seems like it may be to forward. To me The handle would have to go up to where I put the red mark in order for the wood to not split near the end. Then it looks like the handle is to close to the bevel. Maybe others could chime in. I may be looking at it all wrong.

Maybe don't radius the front of the scale so much?

How are you pinning? The addition of a liner will help add some stability to whatever wood you're using.
