First Hamon

Finished up my first knife with a hamon. 1084 with Paduk scales. Ended up with some scratches on the tip during sharpening where I slipped up, but it turned out pretty nice.

Just some furnace cement from menards. Seemed to do the trick.

Love the look, should research this, but how thick do you put the mortar on? I am guessing mortar on top do to edge being hardened.

What I did was about a 1/4" on just the spine and matched it on each side of the blade with a cardboard template

Never thought of using a template for a Hamon - good tip.

Another thing that can work to match the cement on the opposite is to turn the blade over a mirror and use the reflected pattern to match the pattern on the other side of the blade.
