Been on the forum for awhile and posting for the first time. I am a rancher/farmer by trade but build cowboy gear in my little bit of spare time. While mostly building spurs and buckles, knives have become quite a bit of business. After using a 1x30 sander for over a year, I decided that a 2x72" was needed. After a lot of research I ordered the NWG plans and studied them for a long time.
This is my "version" of the NWG. It is very similar in design but I went free standing and put the motor behind to make it slimmer. Everything was welded up out of 1.5" and 2" by 3/16 wall tubing. A bit overkill, but it is rock solid with no vibration whatsoever. The swivel platen works great. Most of the parts came from USA knifemakers, but steel and motor were sourced locally. Little over $1000 in it, but I'm thrilled with the results.
