First dagger

Here's a little dagger I just finished. This is my first dagger, and first attempt at inlay work. The knife is 7" overall length, with a satin finished blade of D2 steel. The handle material is African Blackwood, with freshwater mother of pearl inlays from the Concho River near San Angelo, TX. I fashioned the inlay pieces from raw shells, like the one in the picture. Consider this the forerunner of a major "skunk works" project my brother and I are working on.

Legitimate question... Where do I put my mark? The ricasso would be the natural place, but the design wouldn't allow it to fit. I'm thinking maybe on the top of the right hand side, in the "traditional" spot?

Cool dagger! This is on my bucket list. I'll get one done, or at least started, real soon.

On this question, "Legitimate question... Where do I put my mark?" The ricasso would be the natural place, but the design wouldn't allow it to fit. I'm thinking maybe on the top of the right hand side, in the "traditional" spot? Yes, here would work. Probably your best choice.

Another idea, if the tang is thick enough is a special mark on the butt end. Probably just a name, if it will fit on the thickness. "FRY" is not that long - it should fit length wise. Thickness wise??? I have seen a few on the tang on other knives. . . it is just a thought.

I tapered the tang, only have about 1/16 on the butt end. The knife's built on 1/8 steel, and the smallest stencil I have needs around 5/32 just to get the name on there.
