File Work Lol

Kevin Zito

KNIFE MAKER
So my cousin gave me some old files. Some are still good, and I’m using them. Some, however, have seen their better days. I decided to work on a couple while I wait for other stuff to come back from heat treat. Let me know what y’all think. I still have scratches to remove. The boning knife is 12” OAL with 7.5” blade and 3/16” spine. The razor is 7 OAL with blade around 3” and .25” spine. Both are hollow ground to .020” at edge. I’m basically just playing around and trying to “get to know” my new grinder. It’s absolutely AMAZING. I simply had no idea. I’ve only done clean-ups of 4 by 36 knives and these two knives. BUT... I ordered new steel today and I have some ideas for it lol. Thanks for looking. What out for the puns!! I am impressed, now you got to finish them and see how good a job you did!! So far very good work Kev!!!

Thank you all very much!

Did you anneal and re-heat treat them?

Or, did you grind them in their already hardened state?

Either way, you got them shiny...
I just kept them cool when grinding. I hope that’s ok lol. I did check them, and they are both EXTREMELY hard. Only diamond files will work on these bad boys.

Thanks again, guys, for all the comments. I went with mirror on that one only because I figured it probably won’t get much actual use lol. Also I just really wanted to see how shiny a file could get haha.
