Ever Had This Happen To You?

Delivered a knife to a good customer today. He insisted I take $50 extra for the knife. No, the knife wasn't underpriced. We had agreed on the price when he ordered it and I felt uncomfortable accepting a higher price. I know that may sound strange. He has three of my knives and we discussed the order of his fourth knife. Really good guy to work with. Very knowledgeable about knives and likes different materials. It gives me the me opportunity to try materials I haven't worked with before and that helps me improve as a knifemaker. Looking forward to making the next knife for him.

I agree with Dennis. I've had many, many people ask variations of this question. My advice almost always is "Smile and say thank you." When I tip someone unexpectedly or make a gift of something to someone out of the blue, the worst thing is for them to almost insist on giving it back. All they need to do is smile, look me in the eye, and say thank you.

I’ve seen that happen a few times. It’s usually when a knife is better than expected. Good job.
