I need to color some epoxy for a knife im working on. I had some Black dye specifically made for this but it hardened up (so I threw it out). I need to get more but in the meantime (because of shipping) what will work to color the Epoxy. I use the 45Min West Epoxy.
I use artists charcoal (for black) or other colored pencils/chalk if needed, making dust with120grit sandpaper. Sometimes I'll also use the sanding dust from the handle material to color the epoxy.
I use the powder based dyes or sawdust. Mainly because they don't dissolve in the epoxy. I have some of the liquid dyes but I think you can weaken the epoxy if you add too much.
I appreciate the suggestions but I was looking for something I could buy local. I don't have enough of an order to order and 10 or so bucks for shipping on a 5 dollar item is killing me!! LOL!
I have heard of using sidewalk chalk. You ought to be able to go all Bob Ross and make about any color you need from mixing dust from various colors.
Having never done it myself I’d test it first in a mixing cup to make sure it cures right, but I don’t know why it wouldn’t. If you make it super thick you’ll eventually get Bondo.
