Dyeing leather

I have been using a wool dauber to apply Fiebings on my sheaths. Works grat for black but the brown comes out too dark. What is the best way to get a lighter color? Am I getting too much saturation?

I have noticed the same thing when using the wool dauber, but packing 4 cotton balls together in a scrap of tee-shirt and tying it shut worked really well for me to get a lighter brown.

If it is alcohol based dye, you may want to try cutting it with denatured alcohol. A lot. Obviously, try on scrap leather until you get the effect you want.
Also, if you have an air brush, you can feather it in with some practice.

Dan's right you probably want to dilute your dye a bit.Dave2thumbs
