I often use baking lacquers to enhance damascus blades, but for straight steel blades, I personally don't think any of the bake on coatings work very well. Under even routine use, the finish quickly becomes scratched, scraped, etc.
If your set on trying it, I would highly recommend that the finished blade be blasted with A/O grit prior to the coating application. If you try to do it on a satin finished or polished blade, the coating will simply not stick very well, and will peel off, even under light use.
