Dumb question

Ok guys, I'm about to show my ignorance so shield your eyes! How can you tell the difference between a sheet of G10 and a sheet of paper micarta? Both are black and I really need to know which is which. Ant tips would be appreciated!

okay, you may try this. Take a file strokes on an edge of each. The G10 piece will show a smoother cut. Frank

Often when cutting there will be some micarta "hairs" along the perimeter, g10 rarely has this and if it does the hairs are brittle and hard.

You can see the grain of the fiberglass in G-10, you can barely ,if at all,see the layers of paper in the micarta.

They smell different when you grind them. Bump a corner on the grinder. The first whiff will tell you. (And these are not fun in your lungs, so just a little whiff, please)

micarta makes more of a soft thud when wacked against something hard, g10 is crisper and louder.
