Does amboyna need to be stabilized

I acquired a couple of super nice unstabilized golden amboyna burl scales recently. They are only 1/4" thick and I've heard that thin scales can warp during stabilization. Can I finish them with danish oil and rennaisance wax, or do they need to be stabilized? Thanks in advance for any and all replies.luvsite1

All amboyna burl needs to be stabilized. It moves like crazy. The problem is your scales are too thin at 1/4" to do them. If you try to stabilize them now they will warp badly. At this point, your best bet is to mount them on a knife and then keep applying tung (danish) oil until it stops soaking it up. This will take an hour or so. Sand down and repeat.
