Decided to go with a neatsfoot oil finish on this one. To do that I warmed up the sheath just a little bit in the convection oven to about 150 for about an hour. And brushed the oil on. I know it’s kind of a no-no to do that with a sheath but I know a well-known leather guy that does this and says it’s perfectly fine. This is what we ended up with. You can tell the oil finish is somewhat splotchy at this point but the ones I have seen even out very nicely with age I also think this type of finished would’ve looked better with some heavier tooling but live and learn. Note also the edges didn’t Finish out great and I felt my stitching was some of the worst I’ve done in a while The mouth of that sheath looks weird to me it looked good on the ones I’ve seen like that but I don’t believe I would do it again. Just looks backwards to me.
