Daniel’s KITH WIP

Decided to go with a neatsfoot oil finish on this one. To do that I warmed up the sheath just a little bit in the convection oven to about 150 for about an hour. And brushed the oil on. I know it’s kind of a no-no to do that with a sheath but I know a well-known leather guy that does this and says it’s perfectly fine. This is what we ended up with. You can tell the oil finish is somewhat splotchy at this point but the ones I have seen even out very nicely with age I also think this type of finished would’ve looked better with some heavier tooling but live and learn. Note also the edges didn’t Finish out great and I felt my stitching was some of the worst I’ve done in a while 36EEFF72-6172-45E3-A2C6-D761D2A56A28.jpeg719C6BA7-9574-4669-9387-7E0D9E5E77C2.jpeg871F6BF9-96A6-4F54-8C51-D491BAD0498C.jpegThe mouth of that sheath looks weird to me it looked good on the ones I’ve seen like that but I don’t believe I would do it again. Just looks backwards to me.

Some finished pictures of the knife. @MTBob I am honestly sorry about this knife I feel it’s one of the worst I’ve made in a while. The handle is ugly and the plunges are some of the most uneven I’ve done in a while and the sheath is sub par just felt like I needed to go ahead and get something to you But I would like to make you something that showcases the quality I strive for a bit better so If you’ll let Me I would love to make you another with materials you would like with this same general design just let me know. This knife honestly wouldn’t have left the shop if I wasn’t already late to getting it to you. Sincere apologies. 02914C9C-9FD9-4FA4-90D4-4BF61C6456DC.jpeg42D56000-A336-401A-BF20-2F3FB8714C42.jpeg7CCCE647-BFC8-4ABD-80DF-F1F052F5F100.jpeg093FC809-C7C2-449E-895B-4B77499A1D14.jpeg9F81D981-1E79-43D9-9C4E-208DC4E09D79.jpegF683FE4E-99E8-47C3-BC66-09599EF5AB8E.jpeg

Thanks for tagging along to this truly horrible WIP. LOL. Sorry again for the delays on everything 2020 was a rough year. Hahaha. You all are great thanks for your patience.

Daniel, I received your KITH package and I'm truly impressed. What a professionally prepared and packaged knife, I love it! Regarding your last couple of postings, you are much too hard on yourself. Your knife and sheath are exceptional in my opinion and, as they should be, will be put to good use. I don't normally carry a fixed EDC, but that's going to change with your knife.
Here's what I like about your knife & sheath:
- The knife is sized perfectly for an EDC, a practical shape
- The handle has a kind of weathered look, so I won't worry about scratching or marring. It's almost has a bone material look to it, I like it.
- The recessed shaped handle at the end of the tang allows for an easy pull from the sheath (nice touch, I learned something)
- The blade shape is terrific, nice grind and clean plunge lines
- The stone washed blade will resist corrosion and won't show daily use marks, perfect for an EDC. Nice tumbling markings. And, the blade is SHARP!
- The tapered tang and overall finish of the handle show a level of craftsmanship that you should be proud of.
- The sheath is perfect for an EDC, with nice tooling and shape. The horizontal draw is perfect for an EDC. I like the way if fits the knife.

Notice the overall packaging, well done - AND some EDC oil too.

I'll be proud to carry a knife with a flag stamp, nice touch!

Oh, But, Wait, there's more! I also received a Lansky sharpening system as a result of Daniels recent generous give away.
That is a double win.

You are too kind. I am glad you like it. Sorry about the rough finish on the top of that sheath it would not slick down for whatever reason. Enjoy!

Dan, the photos are my way of saying thank you for your hard work and the generous gift.
