Damascus billet

Mike, the low layer twist patterns have always impressed me nicely. Those complex W, feather, etc are a long time in my future. I really like the feather and might grow to the point I'll try sometime, but not for a while yet.

Ya'll were watching FiF last night? What that a new episode or rerun? For some reason my recorder didn't pick up the new episode last night. I'd better be checking some on that to make sure it's still set.

I've never been shy about my failures, just another chance to learn.

Yes, it was new. "Arctic Forge" Made an ulu then a Northern Long Saex.
We watched it through Amazon video.

Yep, I saw on the "on demand" section there was a FiF on Wed night, 28th. Not sure why it wasn't recorded. It says it will be available on May 5th, same night the next FiF is to be broadcast. I see it on my Amazon Prime, but says I have to pay $2 to watch ($3 for HD). I'll just wait and watch next week.

I came late to the FiF party, but it has been instrumental in re-igniting my interest in making knives. So, for better or worse, I own all 8 seasons and am watching them all again already. Indulgences of an old man.

I had no idea you were my age-ish. So very damned cool you are getting your press at 74 and bent on welding steel!! I am smiling, sir, and very happy for you. And, as I said previously, I am enjoying your journey immensely. Thanks for sharing.

OK, this is the final results I got from the billet started above. This is the first billet, Remember the first was about 1-1/2 twists and about 39 layers. I've went back and read this thread and now am not sure how many layers are in the final billet. Could be around 100, could be over 150 layers. Not sure, but do know the last was forging out to a square billet, Forged to a long billet, rounded it again and twisted perhaps 8 or so twists and got this. You can see the wide spaces at the top right where it looks like a 15 layer section might be. While it's not a "fancy" pattern, since it's a solid billet, I'm content with my first higher layer billet using the press.
